STM cuts flash in high-end MCUs to reduce cost

STMicroelectronics has cut-down its STM32F7 or STM32H7 MCU lines, which have up to 2Mbyte flash and up to 1Mbyte RAM, to make the pin-compatible ScF7x0 and H7x0 microcontrollers.

“These new lines trim embedded flash to the essential, still allowing secure boot, sensitive code and real-time routines to run safely on-chip,” said the firm.

Overall, STM32F7 and H7 features are retained, including peripherals, hardware accelerators, interrupt latency, and ~1ms boot-up.

The entry-level STM32F730 delivers a CoreMark of 1082 running at 216MHz “aided by ST’s unique ART Accelerator for zero-wait-state execution from flash”, said the firm.

Features include cryptographic hardware acceleration, a USB 2.0 High Speed port with PHY, and a CAN interface.

There is 64kbyte of flash, 8kbyte instruction and data caches, 256kbyte of system ram and 16+64kbyte of tightly-coupled memory (TCM) for critical routines and data.

The STM32F750 adds a TFT-LCD controller with graphics accelerator, and has a hardware acceleration for hash algorithms. Two CAN interfaces, an Ethernet MAC, camera interface, and two USB 2.0 interfaces with Full Speed PHY are available.

There are 64kbyte of flash, 4kbyte instruction and 4kbyte data caches, 320kbyte of system RAM, and 16+64kbyte of TCM.

STM32H750_Value-lineThe relatively-speaking high-end STM32H750 delivers 2020 CoreMark at 400MHz and adds a hardware JPEG coder/decoder to the TFT controller and graphics Accelerator for faster GUI performance.

There is also a CANFD port, and additional CANFD with time-trigger capability.

Analogue facilities include “best-in-class” op-amps according to the firm and 16bit ADCs running at up to 3.6Msample/s. There are 128kbyte flash, 16kbyte instruction and data caches, 864kbyte system RAM and the 64+128kbyte of TCM “all feature ECC [error correction] for safe execution from internal or external memory,” said ST.

The parts come in various LQFP and BGA package options from 64 to 240pins.

Parts with 125°C maximum junction temperature are available.
