IBM’s answer to hacking

The answer to hacking is the new IBM Z mainframe which encrypts everything.

“The vast majority of stolen or leaked data today is in the open and easy to use because encryption has been very difficult and expensive to do at scale,” says IBM’s Ross Mauri, “we created a data protection engine for the cloud era to have a significant and immediate impact on global data security.”

The cost of global hacking will be $8 trillion by 2021, says IBM, and the answer is to encrypt all your data. The IBM Z does this for everything, automatically, all the time.

It does it by using what IBM claims is the world’s fastest microprocessor – a ten core, 14nm, SOI chip which runs at 5.2GHz.

Each core has an encryption function and a compression co-processor. The processor encypts data 18x faster than x86-based systems at 5% of the cost, says IBM.

Protection against insider threats from contractors and privileged users is delivered by providing automatic data and code encryption in-flight and at-rest, and tamper-resistance during installation and runtime.
