Mystery still surrounds the BA web-site outage with everyone asking why BA didn’t have a back-up system or a back-up system which worked.

The BA explanation of a power surge knocking out the BA network has not answered the question of why it took so long to fix it.

The unions point to the sacking of hundreds of BA IT staff and out-sourcing management of the system to Tata, but BA CEO Alex Cruz says: “There are no redundancies or outsourcing taking place around this particular hardware set of infrastructure in this particular case. It is all locally hired resources that have been attending to the maintenance and the running of this particular infrastructure.”

In another statement Cruz insisted: “All the parties involved around this particular event have not been involved with any type of outsourcing in any foreign country, They have all been local issues around a local data centre who has been managed and fixed by local resources.”

These statements do not rule out the possible explanation that experienced UK-based staff have been sacked and replaced by inexperienced contractors.
