Shortage of Intel 14nm CPU to hit notebook market

A shortage of Intel’s Whiskey Lake processors will hit notebook shipments and DRAM prices, says TrendForce.
The Whiskey Lake ramp to mass production was due to start in Q3, but notebook OEMs are finding it in short supply.
The chip is made on 14nm – the process which Intel is asking TSMC to supply for its server processors.
TrendForce estimates that the CPU supply gap in the notebook market has increased from around 5% in August to 5-10% in September.
That gap may extend to over 10% in 4Q18, and the shortage is expected to continue into the first half of next year.
The processor shortage will further hit DRAM ASPs which were expected to slide 2% in Q4 and may now drop more.
