Philips and Renault demo smart car-home interaction

Philips Lighting has collaborated with Renault on a concept car that interacts with a smart home, both unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show today.
The Renault Symbioz autonomous electric car is pitched as an extension of the home.
The vehicle’s on-board technology connects the passengers to other cars, people and technologies in the smart home such as Philips connected LED lighting.
“Parked in the smart home, Symbioz doubles as a snug extra room,” said Philips. “The car connects and interacts with all manner of devices and appliances in the home, making it an ideal space to work in or relax.”
The house has Philips Hue lighting in the lounge and kitchen, which automatically switches on before the car reaches the driveway.
As the Renault enters at ground level, walls with Philips Luminous Surfaces automatically light up.
Then the car sits on a platform which elevates it to the living space or terrace.
“The home’s centre-piece cylinder enclosing the platform is lit with 5,368 Color Kinetics iW Flex LED light points that change their shade of white to illustrate the connectivity status between the car and home; for example when the car is charging or on stand-by,” said Philips.
