Toyota, Intel, Denso, Ericsson and DoCoMo have formed the Automotive Edge Computing Consortium aimed at the processing of big data in connected car automotive applications.
In 2025, the amount of data being sent from cars to the cloud will be 10 Exabytes a month, says Toyota.
The poblem is how to implement that without the car’s computer costing many times more than the cost of the car.
Toyota says the consortium aims to use data to support emerging services such as intelligent driving, creating maps with real-time data and driving assistance based on cloud computing.
Toyota is also working with Mazda on electric and connected cars.
