Uber CEO resigns

After saying last week he would take a temporary leave of absence, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick (pictured) has now resigned as CEO following shareholder pressure. He remains on the board.
Five large investors are said to have insisted that he go following an investigation into workplace practices at Uber.
Kalanick’s shares in Uber are said to carry ten votes per share and it is thought that Kalanick and two others have enough of these super-shares to control the company.
Uber has been involved in fight after fight – principally with transportation regulators around the world but recently with Google in a legal spat over the theft of driverless car technology.
“I love Uber more than anything in the world and at this difficult moment in my personal life I have accepted the investors’ request to step aside so that Uber can go back to building rather than be distracted with another fight,” Kalanick told the New York Times.
