Medical connector is easy to operate and can be sterilised

Lemo’s Redel SP connector series is aimed at medical applications.
Its plastic shell is made from a proprietary sulfone material and the connector can withstand “extensive sterilisation cycles” according to a company spokeswoman.
For instant identification, models are available in different colours (grey, blue, yellow, black, red, green and white), and the system has a built-in push-pull latching system – push the connector home to latch it in – after which tension on the cable will not release it. To release, pull a sliding part of the outer shell back, and the connector will come away.
As well as the colour options, there are four keying options to further reduce the chance of mix-ups in multi-connector installations.
“The complete connector can be assembled from spare parts, even the contact configuration, therefore offering good flexibility in stock keeping,” said the firm.
A selection of back collets can handle cables from 2.5mm to 7.5mm in diameter, and contact choices range from four 11.5A contacts to 22 contacts that can handle 1.2A.
The connectors are deigned and made in Switzerland, however, according ot he spokeswoman, “With the UK and Ireland’s medical device industry leading the world in many areas, LEMO has further invested in its UK operational. The local business now offers extended engineering services to support the development of bespoke cable assemblies for use in the medical market.”
LEMO will be exhibiting electrical and fibre optic interconnects at the Medical Technology show in Ireland (Galway Racecourse, 26 to 27 September).
